TATORT MEDEA
Crime Time is Prime Time. A case that remains unresolved to this day: two children have been murdered and there is one main suspect, Medea, the mother of the children.
In a cinematic-theatrical setting, somewhere between interrogation room and coffee kitchen, the investigators in Tatort Medea are no ordinary detectives, but major figures from the history of art and literature: from Euripides to Elfriede Jelinek, from Christa Wolf to Lars von Trier. Their statements contradict one another, their theories often diverge widely – yet all of them are searching for the truth behind the murder of the children.
Like every crime scene investigation, this one is based on collecting evidence, questioning witnesses, narrowing down the circle of suspects and determining the motive for the crime. It is an investigation through a multitude of concepts, stagings, constellations and conflicts surrounding the Medea myth across art history – one that ultimately reveals more about the investigators than about the figure of Medea herself.
