TATORT MEDEA
Crime Time is Prime Time. A case that has never really been solved: two children were murdered and there is a prime suspect, Medea, the children’s mother.
In a cinematic, theatrical setting, somewhere between an interrogation room and a staff kitchen, the investigators in Tatort Medea are not your usual detectives, but giants of art and literary history: from Euripides to Elfriede Jelinek, from Christa Wolf to Lars von Trier. Their statements contradict one another, their theories often diverge widely – yet all are searching for the truth behind the child murder.
Like any Tatort, this one is also built on gathering evidence, questioning witnesses, narrowing down the circle of suspects and unravelling the motive behind the crime. It is a search for clues based on a multitude of concepts, stagings, constellations and conflicts within the Medea narrative across art history, which reveals more about the investigators than about the character of Medea herself.
